Mindfulness through MBSR

An MBSR class (Insight and Mindfulness) is appropriate for those new to meditation and a valuable deepening and enriching experience for anyone who has already had a basic Insight course or a MBSR course. The next MBSR (+insight) course is scheduled beginning January 30, 2008. Registration form.

See Insight and Mindfulness on this site for information about this and various other courses available.

For courses designed and specifically tailored for the needs of your population or clients, complete the event request form .

To deepen your practice or integrate Minfulness and Insight teachings in your personal or professional life go to individual work or group work for helping profesisonals at MMHP . If you are also interested in fostering a meditation community see the mentoring and leadership pages.

This work can provide the means for individuals to become active participants in their own healing process and will enrich any life. For anyone considering treatment options, the course offers empowering tools and valuable experiential information to help determine appropriate next steps. The work can also be used as a component of a comprehensive treatment plan, supplementing work with participants' doctors and therapists.

Formal Mindfulness-Based Programs
The eight week courses are usually offered in eight 2 1/2 hour sessions and include a day of retreat. Because of the length of time available, the eight week course includes more body work than shorter courses. Materials are provided including a workbook and practice CD's.

Pre and post measurements are used to assure continued effectiveness of instruction and to provide valuable information to participants. This feature is especially helpful as a discernment tool for anyone at a crossroads in life. Informal results are useful in helping participants define personal goals and for becoming receptively active in their own processes.

Tailored Mindfulness-Based Programs for your Population
Courses can be tailored for various circumstances and populations. Mary has been teaching many years - Mindfulness and Insight since 1989, perceptive and/or cognitive skills since 1970, and formal MBSR classes since 2003.

Mary Describing her Teaching Experience:
"As a teacher, both of mindfulness and insight practices and in public education, I have been focused on process rather than content - encouraging learning how to learn and learning how to use the mind - rather than on gathering specific information. The value of clear and critical thinking have been what I most value in education.

In my twenty years in public education, I performed individual diagnostic assessments in order to foster skillful performance. The assemssments included both formal and informal means, in the areas of intelligence, achievement, learning styles, and cognitive and perceptual processes. I also designed individualized programs and offered consultations for students, parents, and other team professionals in both further individual tailoring of programs and implementing instructional designs for group settings.

In the late 80's, in response to state-of-the-art research in the field of learning disabilities, I became explicitly involved in helping students work with metacognitive processes. Programs I initiated in the late 80's integrating metacognitive strategies in junior high school and, in the early 70's, working with various perceptual modalities and processes in elementary schools, received state recognition respectively in Texas and in Iowa."
